How to Buy Computer Peripherals

There are other computer components besides RAM, a hard drive, video and sound cards that you will have to consider: We call these peripherals.

Computer peripherals include an input device (often called a mouse or trackball), monitor, and keyboard.

When purchasing from a retail store, you often won't get a choice as these peripherals are already included in the package you buy.

However, the mouse (or trackball, which we prefer) and keyboard are highly individual peripherals that depend, in large part, upon your physical characteristics. Some people, for example, prefer the "natural keyboard" (whose left-hand and right-hand keys are not parallel to one another, but slightly angled).

Trackballs are much easier on the hands, wrists, and elbows, but you'll most likely never see one offered in a pre-configured computer package.

These are "extras" you will want to investigate once you've assembled and used your new system.
